SUNY Geneseo Graduating Senior Bridget Kelly from Bayport Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award
Will Help Teach English and Serve as Cultural Ambassador in Malaysia

GENESEO, NY (05/14/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Geneseo graduating senior Bridget Kelly from Bayport, N.Y. (11705) has received a prestigious Fulbright English teaching assistantship to teach in Malaysia starting next fall. She will be in the classroom in that country to provide assistance to teachers of English for non-native English speakers. She also will serve as a cultural ambassador for the United States.
About 1,500 U.S. students receive Fulbrights each year, awarded only to students who have completed their undergraduate work. Kelly will be graduating May 18 from Geneseo with a major in geography and a minor in anthropology. She also was recently elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most widely known academic honor society.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international exchange program, designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries. The U.S. Congress established the program in 1946 under legislation proposed by the late U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright from Arkansas.
