PLATTSBURGH, NY (01/22/2009)(readMedia)-- The Graduate Admissions Office at SUNY Plattsburgh has good news for those wishing to earn a Master of Science in Teaching Adolescence Programs who have undergraduate degrees in biology, chemistry, English, French, math, physics or Spanish from an accredited university.
The requirements to enter the program have changed, so that these individuals may no longer need additional content-area courses to meet prerequisites for an MST in their field. The content-area preparation at the undergraduate level for those individuals will be deemed sufficient if they have 30 credit hours of content-area coursework with a grade of C or better and an undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
Other changes have been made to the MST Adolescence Worksheet - the worksheet that lists the requirements applicants need to fulfill before entry into the program. As a result, those with undergraduate degrees from an accredited university in a major related to social studies or to earth science need to contact the director of Graduate Advising and Teacher Certification at 518-564-2124, Room 302 of Sibley Hall, or the Graduate Admissions Office at 518-564-4723.
The MST Adolescence Worksheet still applies to applicants with undergraduate degrees in other fields. Applicants can gain access to the worksheet by contacting the director of graduate advising and teacher certification or the Graduate Admissions Office. The worksheets can also be downloaded from the following webpage: plattsburgh.edu/admissions/graduate/forms.php.
All content-area and other prerequisites must be met before applicants will be able to matriculate into a program. Those who still need to meet some prerequisites, however, may apply to Graduate Admissions (plattsburgh.edu/admissions/graduate/) by the Feb. 15 application deadline, as long as they can present a plan for completing any undergraduate deficiencies by the time the MST program starts in the fall of 2009.
All applicants to the MST Adolescence Program must attend an all-day campus interview, if invited. Interview Days are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 27 in Plattsburgh and on Saturday, March 28 at the Branch Campus at Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, N.Y. Additional information about the Interview Day will be communicated via e-mail to those who submit applications by the Feb. 15 deadline.
