SUNY Plattsburgh Hosts Annual Ethics in the News Media Panel

SUNY Plattsburgh's annual Ethics in the News Media Panel will allow the campus and community to join local media professionals in a discussion about ethics in the media.

The panel, organized by the Center for Communication and Journalism, will convene May 4 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge of the Angell College Center. The forum is free of charge and open to the campus and community.

Panelists at this year's discussion will include the following:

• Stephanie Gorin and Gus Rosendale, anchors at WPTZ.
• Bob Grady, editor, and Lois Clermont, news editor, at the Press-Republican
• Ryan Hayner, editor, and Jessica Bakeman, managing editor, at Cardinal Points.
• Dr. Jonathan Slater, associate professor, and Shawn Murphy, chair of the journalism department, in SUNY Plattsburgh's Center for Communication and Journalism.

"It's important for the public to see transparency in a newsroom and how and why journalists make the decisions they do. I'm thankful that representatives from the local media are willing to give up time from a busy schedule to share this information with students and the public," said Murphy, who is coordinating the panel.

Panelists will discuss real-life local case studies from the past year. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and make comments during the discussion.
