SUNY Plattsburgh Music Department Presents Chamber Ensembles Concert

PLATTSBURGH, NY (11/05/2009)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Plattsburgh music department will present a Chamber Ensembles Concert on Monday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall. Free and open to the public, this program features four of the department's chamber ensembles.

Among the pieces presented will be "A Celtic Celebration" arranged by Ricky Lombordo. The Flute Ensemble, directed by Robin Cameron-Phillips, will perform this medley of six traditional well-known Irish songs.

Another main work on the program will be "Paquito" by Andy Scott, performed by the Clarinet Choir under the direction of Janine Scherline. "Paquito" is a musical homage to Paquito D'Rivera in the form of a fast-paced salsa based on the "clave" rhythm.

In addition, Daniel Gordon will direct the Saxophone Ensemble in performing "Four Early American Spirituals" by William Schmidt, as well as pieces by Sousa and Haydn.

Finally, Herm Matlock will direct the Brass Ensemble. Among their concert selections are "Brass Quintet #2" by Arthur Frackenpohl.
