The Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center presents an educational program for the caregivers of individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Jeanne Fowler, author of “Peter’s Lullaby” will speak. Sometimes called the "voice" for abused children, Fowler was tortured the first 18 years of her life. The former Plattsburgh resident founded the non-profit organization Big Family of Michigan to make life better for abused and neglected children. In honor of her three-year-old brother who was tortured to death, Fowler has launched "The New R & R"SM (Recognize and Report) campaign to raise awareness and encourage action against child abuse. Fowler’s talk will address details of "The New R & R"SM campaign; the top 10 tips for recognizing and reporting child abuse; the misconceptions about reporting child abuse; a song without words, “Peter's Lullaby,” that held a little girl's life together; and missed opportunities that people have had to make a difference. The Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center will be holding an educational workshop, covering diabetes risk awareness, prevention and management. SUNY Plattsburgh alumnus Frank Winters ’87 will return to the campus as a part of the Distinguished Visiting Alumni program and deliver a talk “Everything Happens Somewhere: Applying Geography to Real World Business.” Winters is a GIS manager for the New York State Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination. He was nominated for the Distinguished Visiting Alumni Award by Eileen Allen, coordinator of the GIS laboratory for earth and environmental sciences, and Don Bogucki, professor of earth and environmental sciences.

“Baraka” is a non-verbal documentary film named after a Sufi word that translates roughly as "breath of life" or "blessing." Ron Fricke's impressive vision is a tour-de-force in 70mm - a cinematic "guided meditation" shot in 24 countries on six continents over a 14-month period that unites religious ritual, the phenomena of nature, and man's own destructive powers into a web of moving images. The feeling is like that of viewing the universe through a powerful telescope, that we are indeed on a tiny orb hurtling through a star-filled void. After the screening, there will be a discussion hosted by History Professor Gary Kroll and English Professor Tracy Guzio. This event is free and open to the public.

This is a participatory event. Students are encouraged to share rituals of religious, traditional or cultural practice with all those in attendance. The leader will guide participants, instructing them in how to properly perform the ritual. Traditional stories or legends can also be shared. The participatory aspect can be passive as well as active. This event is free and open to the public.

The winners of those two matches will meet in the third place game at 4 p.m. on Nov. 24. The championship game will be played at 7 p.m. that same night.

She interviewed members of the Arizona Minutemen and participated in one of the group's gatherings this past summer. She has also researched other similar groups in Arizona and California. She will talk about how these groups came into existence, what they do to stop illegal immigration, and why they are controversial. Free and open to the public.
