POTSDAM, NY (07/26/2012)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Potsdam Alumni Association recently presented Lynne Boles '74 of Cincinnati, Ohio, with the 2012 Minerva Award at the College's annual Reunion Weekend.
The Minerva Award is presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated outstanding professional achievement in his or her field. It is the highest honor that a SUNY Potsdam graduate can receive from the association. Boles was recognized for her professional achievements and extraordinary leadership efforts on behalf of her alma mater.
As a freshman, Lynne Boles '74 quickly learned to work under pressure and meet deadlines, as the managing editor of the student newspaper, The Racquette. She then spent two years as a Student Government Association officer, serving as recording secretary and officer manager, then as SGA president her senior year. During her time at SUNY Potsdam, Boles was an active member of the Agonian Sorority and the first student member of the Potsdam College Foundation Board of Trustees.
Graduating in three years with her degree in English, Boles next enrolled at the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University, where she earned her master's degree in television and radio management.
In 1975, Boles was recruited into the world-class management training program at Procter & Gamble, where she moved through a series of increasingly responsible positions in brand management and advertising development, culminating in her being named vice president of global advertising in 2009.
She was recognized as the Corporate Advertising Executive of the Year in 2009 by the Delaney Report, and played a major role in P&G being named Advertiser of the Year in 2008 and Ad Age Marketer of the Year in 2006. Her track record over three decades in brand building, development and execution of holistic consumer communications made her one of the world leaders in brand advertising.
Boles rejoined the Potsdam College Foundation Board in 2005. In 2006, she was the keynote speaker at the College's Bachelor's Commencement Ceremony, and was the 2011 keynote speaker for the Fall Student Leadership Conference. She has shared her professional expertise as chair of the College's marketing committee and assisted in the development of a marketing and branding strategy for the campus. In addition, Boles was a lead donor on the Mary English Commons Project, and has been a faithful major donor to the College as well.
