SUNY Potsdam Breaks Ground on $41 Million Performing Arts Building this Friday

POTSDAM, NY (04/26/2011)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its $41 million Performing Arts Building in a ceremony with members of the College community and elected officials on Friday, April 29 at 3:15 p.m. Representatives from Pfeiffer Partners Architects PC, which designed the building, and general contractor Northland Associates Inc. will also attend.
The ceremony will kick off with a special performance by Cari Danco, a student Caribfunk dance troupe, and the backdrop will include silhouettes designed by students from the Department of Theatre and Dance representing their hopes for the facility.
This is the first new academic building to be constructed on the SUNY Potsdam campus since 1973. The Performing Arts Building will feature 97,000 square feet of theater and dance space, supporting the College's acclaimed Department of Theatre and Dance.
The following representatives are set to attend the celebration:

- State Assemblymember Addie Jenne Russell
- State Senator Patricia Ritchie
- State Assemblymember Kenneth Blankenbush
More than 100 guests and many students are set to attend this joyous event. The Performing Arts Building will provide an estimated $128 million in economic activity and create 344 regional jobs in the North Country throughout construction.
