SUNY Potsdam Presents Awards to Students, Business Partners and Alumni at Economic Fusion Event

SUNY Potsdam President Kristin G. Esterberg (center) presented the Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Marc and Christine Compeau ’89.

POTSDAM, NY (04/02/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam recognized area business leaders and accomplished alumni at Economic Fusion 2015, on March 19.

The summit celebrated innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity, with a focus on the North Country economy, and the College's commitment to the community.

Following a student innovative idea competition and an economic development panel discussion, SUNY Potsdam students mingled with employers at a unique networking reception, called "Schmooze-A-Palooza."

SUNY Potsdam President Dr. Kristin G. Esterberg presented three awards to area business leaders and alumni at the reception:

  • Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year Award: Marc Compeau '89 and Christine Compeau '89
  • Entrepreneurial Business of the Year Award: Frazer Computing
  • Community Leader of the Year Award: Slic Network Solutions

In addition, the College recognized three students who won top prizes in the student innovative idea competition.

  • Molly Jones, a music business major from East Aurora, N.Y., won first place and a prize of $500 for her idea, the "Quickstand," an innovative, space-saving and easy set-up percussion stand.
  • James Myer, a music business major and mathematics tutor from Ronkonkoma, N.Y., won second place and a $250 prize for his idea, "M Square," an educational mobile app game combining music and math.
  • Austin Patzwahl, a business administration major from Canaan, N.Y., won third place and a $100 prize for his idea, "Flashing Brake Lights," a car safety proposal.
