SVSU students present "An Evening of One Act Plays"
The Saginaw Valley State University Department of Theatre presented "An Evening of One Act Plays: Soundscapes and Mountain Language" in November.
Dana Samalik, a communication and theatre education major from Essexville, directed "Soundscapes," written by Claudia Haas and Sarah Kraning. In this work, Iris experiences music - and the world - through a unique sensory lens. She struggles to downplay her neurodivergence until she meets a new friend who also sees colors when music plays. An ensemble chorus of colors brings Iris's experience to life in a triumphant, visually striking coming-of-age story that celebrates self-acceptance.
Eric Durette, a theatre major from China, Michigan, directed Harold Pinter's "Mountain Language," which confronts oppression and the struggle for expression in a setting where speech itself becomes forbidden.
