Saint Michael's student Craig Resendes of Fall River lands internship with professional summer theater.

COLCHESTER, VT (07/27/2012)(readMedia)-- "I'm dedicated to theater, to finding work in theater," said Greg Resendes, Saint Michael's College junior, who landed the position of administrative intern with the Saint Michael's Playhouse this summer. "This is a great experience working with the pros and seeing how they work and how quickly a show comes together."

Resendes, a junior theater major, is the son of Kelly and Sandra Resendes of Fall River. He graduated from Bishop Stang High School before coming to Saint Michael's. The theater major is working in the professional Saint Michael's Playhouse which is owned and operated by the college. The college and the Playhouse are located in Burlington Vermont, one of the top-10 college towns in the country.

As an administrative intern, Resendes puts in full days working the box office, doing sales, making reservations, helping out with front of the house work with the ushers, as well as working at times back stage, and helping run the shows in the evening. He has worked building sets, hanging lights, find props, and more, and typically puts in 12 hour days working front of the house and back stage.

Ambition for stage, screen or TV

"I have learned so much," the theater student said. "I talk with the actors and find out how they got where they are-I know it will further my career-I just want to get into theater and act and direct. I'm not deterred by the challenge; you can do a lot in theater-stage, film, TV."

Resendes said the short, two-week time frame to build a show is very different from the three months it takes to develop a college show during the school year. Resendes has performed in recent Saint Michael's College shows, including Rumors, The Art of Dining, Anything Goes, and Romeo and Juliet, where he played his favorite role, Ben Bolio. He is also active in the SMC Drama Club.

Playhouse background

Founded in 1947, Saint Michael's Playhouse features talent from Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theaters nationwide and attracts approximately 16,000 theatergoers each season. An auxiliary enterprise of Saint Michael's College, the Playhouse is greater Burlington's only actors' Equity resident theater company and operates under contract with Actors' Equity Association in New York City. At the same time, Saint Michael's College students have the opportunity to learn from the pros through internships in technical theater, costuming, lighting, set construction, publicity, and occasionally, on-stage roles.
