Saint Michael's College student Greg Sargent lands internship with professional summer theater, Saint Michael's Playhouse.

COLCHESTER, VT (07/17/2012)(readMedia)-- Learning tricks that get the set built quickly-that's one of the key things Greg Sargent has discovered this summer working on the construction crew building stage sets at Saint Michael's Playhouse. The Saint Michael's College student landed a coveted internship working with the professional Saint Michael's Playhouse which is owned and operated by the college.

Sargent is working long hours building the set for FOREVER PLAID having just finished the set for OVER THE PUB that opens July 18 for a two-week run at the Playhouse.

The son of Mary and Stephen Sargent of Nashua, Greg is a senior theater major at Saint Michael's, which is located in Burlington, Vermont, one of the top 10 college towns in the country. He is a production intern at the Playhouse, building sets for each of the four shows staged at the professional theater this summer.

"I am learning the way everything comes together, has to come together, perfectly and quickly, in time for opening," Sargent said. "I've learned some great little tricks of carpentry to help the process-it's busy but fun."

Interns see the speed of mounting a professional show in two weeks' time, especially when compared to the time it takes to stage a college show during the school year. College shows are produced over the course of an entire semester, while the professional shows are mounted top to bottom in two weeks-building the show, rehearsing, staging, costuming, and all the rest.

Sargent has worked in summer theater at Barnstormers in Tamworth, N.H. He indicated that being at the Playhouse is a great opportunity, very different from the school year because of the speed of production, and because of the chance to work with professionals at an Equity theater.
