ALBANY, NY (06/05/2012)(readMedia)-- Much like Don Quixote, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel continues to promote her gun control schemes in the state legislature. She has managed to place her firearms microstamping bill A-1157B on the Assembly Debate List for today where we expect she will use obfuscation and hysterics in an attempt to advance her bill. To help cut through the fog, NYSRPA wants to make the facts about her proposal crystal clear:
FACT: There is no public support for microstamping. As the rally inside the Well of the Legislative Office Building sponsored by the Assemblywoman and New Yorkers Against Gun Violence demonstrated back in April, the only "support" for her bill is in the form of a couple dozen or so youths who had skipped school and were bussed to Albany for a dog-and-pony show. By contrast, the rally sponsored by NYSRPA in March attracted several thousand attendees from all across the state who came to Albany at their own expense in a show of support for gun rights and in opposition to her bill.
FACT: Police do not support microstamping and say it does not work. The New York State Sheriffs' Association is opposed to the bill and the Suffolk County Crime Lab, which is in Assemblywoman Schimel's own backyard, have concluded it does not work.
FACT: The legislature is getting tired of this nonsense. Since its original introduction several years ago, her bill has lost 10 co-sponsors and twice as many votes in the Assembly. What part of this does the Assemblywoman not understand?
It is high time for legislative leaders to say enough is enough and stop wasting their time pandering to fringe elements and their legislative agendas.
