Seattle Native Rachel Alexander Wins Journalism Award at National Conference

WALLA WALLA, WA (11/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Seattle native Rachel Alexander recently attended the 91st annual Associated Collegiate Press Conference in Chicago as the editor-in-chief of Whitman College's student-run newspaper, The Pioneer. She won second place for the Feature Story of the Year for her article on sexual assault. The paper was also won the "Best of Show" award.

Alexander is the daughter of Shelly Sundberg from Seattle and Whit Alexander from Koforidua, Ghana. She is a 2009 graduate of Garfield High School.

At Whitman, Alexander is a senior politics-environmental studies double major. She is a freelance contributor for the local newspaper, The Union-Bulletin, and she is the vice president of the Daily Market cooperative board in Walla Walla, WA.
