CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (01/17/2012)(readMedia)-- Sharon Berry of Cape Girardeau, Mo., is among a select group of elite Southeast Missouri State University undergraduates chosen to participate in a five-day seminar in Washington, D.C., during spring break March 11-16, learning about global issues in business, the environment and politics at the prestigious Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Students selected for the opportunity were required to demonstrate leadership involvement on and off campus, academic excellence or both.

Participants for the trip were nominated by faculty members and selected by University administrators, including Southeast President Kenneth W. Dobbins, Southeast Provost Ronald Rosati, deans and regional campus directors.

Berry is studying for a major in social work. She is a junior at Southeast and would like to operate a drug treatment facility when she graduates.

Berry is married to William Berry and has two children, Carmen, 25, and Ayana, 19. She was a 1982 graduate of Berkeley High School in Berkeley, Mo.
