Shields Named All-Met Player Of The Year; White Named to Second Team

PLEASANTVILLE, NY (04/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Senior forward Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) was named All-Met Division II Player of the Year, while senior guard Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) was named to the All-Met Second Team.

Shields led the Setters with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.7% from the field on the season. She also posted 12 double-doubles this year. Shields ranked fourth in the NE-10 in scoring, second in rebounds, 12th in field goal percentage and third in double-doubles. She was 25th in the nation in rebounds, 49th in scoring, 40th in field goal percentage and 26th in double-doubles.

This season, Shields was the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) and a Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American after an stand-out season for Pace. Shields was also a Northeast-10 Conference First Team All-Conference selection as well as a Daktronics Second Team East Region selection. She was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll 11 times this season and was previously named the NE-10 Rookie of the Year in 2008-09 and was an NE-10 Second Team selection last season. The 5-10 forward started the first three games of the season with three consecutive double-doubles and finished the season with twelve overall.

Shields set a career-high of 17 rebounds against New Haven on February 4. She reached 1,000 career points in a victory over Adelphi on December 6 to become the 25th player to join the 1,000-career point club for Pace University. As she enters her final season in the fall, Shields ranks seventh in school history with 1,323 points and 11th in rebounds with 771.

White was third on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game and led the team with 54 steals and 67 three-pointers. She finished ninth in the NE-10 in steals, while tying for second place in three-pointers made. She led the conference in three-point percentage as she shot 44.1% from long range this season. White had her best game of the season on December 6 against Adelphi when she scored a season-high 19 points on 5-for-10 shooting from long range and recorded four steals.

In her two seasons in a Pace uniform, White made an impact on the Pace record book. She ended her Pace career with 103 three-pointers and ranks seventh on the all-time three-point list in Pace history. She also finished tied for third on the single season three-point list this season and was five triples away from the single season school record.

The duo helped lead the Setters to a third place finish in the conference at 20-9 overall record and 16-6 in the conference. The Setters were selected to their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament as the #4 seed this season.
