Shihao Tian Receives Final Convocation Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College senior Shihao Tian received the Weyland Thomas Joyner Physics Award, presented by Dr. Walter C. McDermott III, Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy. The Weyland Thomas Joyner Physics Award is given to the physics major who exhibits outstanding scholastic achievement in the field.

A Patrick Henry Scholar, Shihao serves as Treasurer for both the International Club and the Society of Physics Students. He is a member of the Math & Computer Science Club, the Minority Student Union, and the honor societies Phi Beta Kappa (academics) and Chi Beta Phi (science). At Final Convocation in 2010, he received the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award and in 2011 he received the Selden-Franke Award in Computer Science. A physics and computer science major, Shihao graduated from Shanxi Changzhi No. 2 High School and is the son of Mr. Longqi Tian and Mrs. Liping Niu of Lucheng, China.
