SCHENECTADY, NY (03/18/2014)(readMedia)-- On Monday, March 24 at 5 p.m. inside the Sarazen Student Union, Siena College will honor Transfinder Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Antonio Civitella '91 with the inaugural Stack Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship "Entrepreneur of the Year" award.

The "Entrepreneur of the Year" award is given to a Siena College graduate who has positively impacted his or her community and is driven by the entrepreneurial spirit and the values of Siena College.

"Antonio is the epitome of a successful entrepreneur, especially a Siena College entrepreneur. He didn't take the easy path but rather the one less traveled," said Mike Hickey '83, Siena College executive-in-residence and executive director of the Stack Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. "He took calculated risks and now Antonio, his employees, his customers and the community are enjoying the benefits of well-earned success. The fact that the first step on his journey started as an intern at Siena College, only makes the story more enjoyable. We are so pleased to honor Antonio with this award."

Civitella graduated from Siena College with a degree in computer science in 1991. While in college, Civitella began his career as a computer software intern with the management-consulting firm James Forth & Associates. He successfully developed and launched the company's flagship product, Routefinder Pro and worked his way up to become the Schenectady-based company's vice president and chief operating officer. In 2000, Civitella purchased the company and became its president and CEO. He changed the company's name to Transfinder to reflect its focus on products and services related to pupil transportation. Civitella's company has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing private companies in the United States for seven consecutive years (2007-2013). Civitella is committed to keeping his successful company in the Capital Region. He built Transfinder's $7 million headquarters in the heart of downtown Schenectady, a sign that the company's future is here.

"Receiving the "Entrepreneur of the Year" award has a very deep meaning for me because it comes from my alma mater, Siena College. I get nostalgic when I think about Siena, this very special place to me. This is where I learned the skills I needed to land my first job, thanks to the good advice from one of my advisers. Little did I know that it would be the only company I would work for," said Civitella. "It is an honor to come back to Siena and be recognized as 'Entrepreneur of the Year.' It's an award I gladly share with Siena because this school provided the foundation on which my career has been built and I'm excited about the future Entrepreneurs of the Year being created at the College today."
