Snow, Ice, Sleds, Saws and Fun Set for this Saturday

DELHI, NY (01/18/2011)(readMedia)-- The Walton Fairgrounds will be transformed into a celebration of winter in true Northeastern style this Saturday as it hosts the 2nd Annual Winter Festival. The weather forecast is for a cold but sunny day which will keep the ice from melting and you from freezing. This is a great family oriented event sure to please.

This one day festival will feature the ACF, American Culinary Federation, and NICA, the National Ice Carving Association and a spectacular ice carving competition. Carvers will compete against time, creativity and Mother Nature. Competitors will be toting chain saws, chisels, blow torches, and other special tools of the trade. Come out and see these college students compete. There will be six teams of carvers visiting all the way from Ohio, and as close as SUNY Delhi's culinary team. This competition is a practice event for the NICA National Championship held later this season in Holland, Michigan. Local carvers will also lead onlookers through the ins and outs of ice carving and will have a special tent where kids can try their hand freeing a toy from a block of ice (parental supervision required!!)

Where there's ice, there's snow. The Hamden Hill Ridge Riders will be hosting snowmobile drag races all day. These guys and gals hit speeds of 100 mph!! There will be different classes of drag races for racers to test their skills in. The fairgrounds will also feature a Wood Carving Competition and Charity Raffle. Ice Skating will be going on all day long with skates available for visitors to use. Come and enjoy horse-drawn sleigh rides, and sleigh exhibition, snowman and igloo building, ice block building for kids, and more. After all that fun and crisp winter air, warm up with a cup of hot chilii, soup, burgers, coffee or hot cocoa.

The Winter Festival is a one-day spectacular celebrating and showcasing a true Northeastern Winter season. The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is co-hosting the 2nd Annual Winter Festival along with the Hamden Hill Ridge Riders. Questions about the event? Come on out to Walton and follow the signs at the Main Street traffic light for the fairgrounds!! Walton, in Delaware County in the western Catskills, is easily accessed from I-88 via the Sidney exit, then south on Route 206, or off of State Hwy 10. General Admission: $3.00.
