Springfield native honored by Marquette University's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures
MILWAUKEE, WI (07/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Taylor Dean, son of Stephanie and Larry Dean, was honored with the President's Latin Contest at the Intermediate Level Award from Marquette University's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures' National Classics Honorary Society. Dean is working toward her bachelor of arts in theology with a second major in classical languages.
The National Classics Honorary Society, Eta Sigma Phi, honors students who have excelled in their study of Latin or ancient Greek at the university level and promotes local interest in the cultures and civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome. Marquette's Eta Sigma Phi chapter offers two prestigious cash awards every year to students who complete outstanding translations.
The President's Latin Contest has one award at the intermediate level of Latin and one award at the advanced level. Dean produced the best English translation of a Latin account of the Trojan War. The award prize is the Fr. Arnold Memorial Fund Cash Prize and certificate of merit.
