APPLETON, WIS.-- (04/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Flutist Sam Golter, son of Jay and Kyung Golter, Springfield, recently earned first-place honors in a pair of music competitions.
A senior at Lawrence University, Golter won the Collegiate Soloist Competition sponsored by the Flute Society of Washington Inc. Conducted in Reston, the competition is open to undergraduate students who are from or attend college in the Mid-Atlantic states.
Golter was one of three finalists selected from among 23 students who entered the competition via submitted audition tape. He received $300 for his winning performance, which featured C.P.E Bach's "Sonata in A Minor" and Ian Clarke's "The Great Train Race" in the live competition finals.
Golter also was a member of a Lawrence University woodwind quintet that won the Neale-Silva Young Musicians competition in Madison, Wis. The competition was sponsored by Wisconsin Public Radio.
Golter and the rest of the quintet will reprise their winning performance Sunday, April 29 at 12:30 p.m. in the Wisconsin Union Theater in Madison in a concert that will be broadcast live statewide by WPR. Each member of the quintet received a first-place prize of $400.
He is a 2008 gradute of Robert E. Lee High School.
