U of A doctoral graduate Sonali Lenaduwe is investigating the genes that help baker's yeast survive extreme stress, research that could offer broader insights into human health. Because yeast and humans share thousands of genes, identifying the genetic mechanisms behind yeast stress resilience may help scientists better understand how human cells respond to environmental pressures and conditions such as inflammation and cancer.
