ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (09/30/2013)(readMedia)-- After more than a year in planning, Flagler College's Communication Department will launch a weekly St. Augustine television show, "Ancient City Stories," on Jacksonville's CW 17. The premier will air on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m.

The St. Augustine lifestyle show, shot and produced by Flagler College students, features stories on unique people and places in St. Augustine. There will be a live screening of the premier episode Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Gamache-Koger Theater in the Ringhaver Student Center, 50 Sevilla St.

"The CW gave us a mission to find interesting people and places in St. Augustine," said Tracy Halcomb, chair of the Communication Department. "The content of the shows is 100 percent shot and edited by Communication majors and alumni."

Halcomb said the station's decision to air the show, especially in such a high profile time slot, says something about the quality of the students' work.

The program was executive produced by Josh Wallace, the college's FCTV station manager.

"Ancient City Stories is a fantastic opportunity for our students who consistently create broadcast quality work," he said. "The students have put a lot of hard work in to get the show to the point it is at, and with the premier right around the corner, we are all very excited to see the fruits of our labor."

Wallace said he had a number of students over the summer producing content including Sina Eslami, Shannon LeDuke, Elizabeth Eustace, Madison Ciklin, Ben Whitson, Jason Reimann, Harold Hood and Josh Santos. Numerous classes in the department have also produced stories for the half-hour show.

Faculty involved have included Halcomb, Mark Huelsbeck, Robbie Gordon and Helena Sarkio. Halcomb said the project has utilized student skills from across all Communication majors including researching, editing, publicity and social media.

"This has been a labor of love for a little over a year," Halcomb said.

CW17 WCWJ is a Jacksonville CW network-affiliated station that also carries a number of local programs about the Jacksonville and First Coast region.
