LA MIRADA, CA (04/16/2014)(readMedia)-- Biola will add a multi-dimensional talent to its track and field program in Eli Malfo. He can run sprints, mid-distance and distance for the Eagles, and has excelled in his two seasons as a track and field athlete at the high school level.
Malfo attends St. Joseph High School, and he began running full-time for the Knights in his junior year. He immediately began to experience great success on the track for Head Coach Philip Adam.
He went to the state cross country meet as a sophomore and senior, and as a junior he went to the CIF finals in the 800m. In that junior season he also won his division and set a league record in the 800m. His personal-best in the 800m is a 1:55.90. That personal-best is right on par with Biola's current indoor record in the 800m.
"We are super excited to add Eli to our roster," said Biola Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman. "He is a dynamic person that will bring some real positive energy to the team. You can see that he is going to excel here."
In addition to the 800m Malfo puts in solid times in the 400m (:50.1), 200m (:23.1), 1500m (4:11.0) and the 1600m (4:35.0).
