State DOT Reminds Motorists to Drive Carefully

Check 511NY Before Traveling to Get Latest Road Conditions

ALBANY, NY (09/01/2011)(readMedia)-- In advance of the busy holiday travel weekend, New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald today reminded motorists to plan their routes carefully and check road and bridge conditions before traveling to avoid flooded road closures.

"DOT crews are working hard to reopen roads and bridges as quickly as possible and will continue to assess damages and make repairs throughout the long weekend," said McDonald. "It is critically important that motorists obey detour signs and barriers so that they and their passengers can arrive safely at their destinations."

Motorists can get the latest information on road closures and travel conditions by dialing 511 on their telephones or visiting http://www.511ny.org before traveling.
