Statement from NYSBA President Glenn Lau-Kee On New Committee to Study Bar Exam

ALBANY, NY (11/12/2014)(readMedia)-- (Text of statement below)

"I am pleased that Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman is creating a committee to study possible changes to the way New York tests candidates for admission to bar.

"By extending the public comment period until March 1, he provides an opportunity to examine the many issues raised by possible adoption of the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). By not implementing the UBE in July 2015, he gives law students and law professors more time to adjust to possible exam changes.

The New York State Bar Association House of Delegates recently expressed concerns about the proposal to adopt the UBE without additional study. I appreciate that the Chief Judge is receptive to further input from the legal community."
