Statement from OASAS Commissioner Karen Carpenter-Palumbo in Recognition of National Nurses Week
ALBANY, NY (05/06/2008)(readMedia)-- In recognition of National Nurses Week, May 6-12, State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) Commissioner Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo today honored all of the outstanding nurses who are a key part of the addictions service system in New York State. Governor David Paterson has proclaimed May 6-12, 2008 as Nurses Week in New York.
Nurses are a key component of the 35,000 professionals who work in the addictions field statewide. As addictions are becoming increasingly complicated, nurses have become an integral part of providing quality, caring services throughout our entire system.
This year’s theme, “Nursing: Making a Difference Everyday,” reflects the vital role nurses have in our healthcare system. They are among the most dedicated professionals and fulfill some of our most challenging roles. Nursing is the art of balancing emotional care along with physical care.
On behalf of the Governor and OASAS, I want to thank all of these outstanding professionals for their dedication and service to the healthcare system. It is a profession to be proud of and I hope each of you realize your value and know that you are at the heart of patient care each and every day.
