Statement on NYS Senator Thomas Morahan's Passing
ALBANY, NY (07/13/2010)(readMedia)-- Environmental and conservation groups across New York today mourned the loss of Senator Thomas Morahan (R-Nanuet), one of the leading environmental voices in the State Senate.
Senator Morahan distinguished himself as a champion of environmental measures and often rallied his colleagues for support on legislation to protect New York's air, land and water. Senator Morahan had been a strong proponent of measures such as the Global Warming Pollution Control Act, a bill pending in the Senate that would reduce statewide climate pollution 80 percent by 2050, and the Green Jobs – Green New York Act, which was enacted last year and will increase energy efficiency and create new jobs for New Yorkers.
Just three weeks ago, on June 24th, Senator Morahan issued a media statement in support of the global warming bill: "Once again, I am urging bipartisan support from my colleagues in the New York State Legislature to do all they can to utilize all resources available to win the campaign to reduce greenhouse gas emissions."
His efforts to rally bipartisan support to protect our natural resources will be missed. The groups send their condolences to the Senator's family and staff.
