STAUNTON, VA (04/29/2013)(readMedia)-- On Wednesday, May 1st, the Staunton Parks and Recreation Department will team up with Kiwanis Little League Baseball to host the The Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run, which is a FREE one-day skills event for girls and boys 7-14 years of age (age determined by deadline date of July 17, 2012).

Participants will compete in four (4) different age groups:

7/8; 9/10; 11/12; 13/14

Participants will showcase their abilities in three important aspects of baseball:

Batting: Hit from a stationary tee for distance and accuracy

Pitching: Throw a baseball/softball for accuracy from a distance of forty-five (45) feet for boys and thirty-five (35) feet for girls.

Base-running: Run from second base to home plate for time.

Each skill event uses a conversion table to convert accuracy, distance and time into a composite point total. NO METAL SPIKES ARE ALLOWED

Champions of each skill event along with "all-round" high scorers in each age group will advance to an assigned sectional competition.

In the event of threatening weather conditions, cancelations and rescheduling will be determined by Staunton Parks and Recreation and announced on the department cancelation line by 4pm ( 332-3947).

On-site registration begins at 5:30pm at Jerry May Field. Dan Bonner, ESPN and Raycom Sports Analyst will be on-hand to announce each participant and participant final statistics. The event is free. All participants will receive a free Kiwanis Hotdog and AquaFina drink.
