STAUNTON, VA (01/04/2011)(readMedia)-- Below are the January classes and trips offered in the Winter/Spring Department Brochure from the City of Staunton's Parks and Recreation Department. The purpose of this bi-monthly press release is to spread the word about our various program, trip, athletic services and activities available to the community.
TRIPS
Get out your long underwear, we're going tubing! Grab your winter waterproof gear and let's head to the 900 foot long hill at the Peaked Mountain Express Tube Park for a few hours of fun. 36" tall a requirement and children 12 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Please do not wear shell, or ski boots. You may bring a packed lunch, snacks and water but food is also available for purchase at the resort.
Friday, January 14

PROGRAMS
Have a budding ballerina? Send them to beginner ballet and watch them bloom! We will use our imaginations and creative movement to learn classical ballet in a fun way. Wear comfy clothes, or your favorite tutu. Ages 4-6.

Genealogy is the second most popular hobby in America. Do you know your heritage? This is a class for beginners and intermediate genealogists. Learn interesting means of unraveling your family mysteries and secrets of the professionals. Interpret vital records, census data, and tricks to reading old handwriting.

A flowing style yoga class linking yoga poses together to bring balance and harmony to our bodies as we move our bodies with our breath. This type of Yoga flow features cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, strength and relaxation. Multi-level class, please wear comfortable clothes, bring a yoga mat & water.

The popular course offered last Fall returns for the winter. One night each week a new battle will be reviewed in a classroom setting, then on Saturday the group will car pool and visit the battlefield itself. Participants will learn the strategic importance of Staunton while gaining insight into the weapons and tactics of the war, with particular emphasis on Jackson's Valley Campaign and Hunter's Raid. Visit McDowell, Cross Keys, Port Republic and Piedmont, or just attend the weeknight class.
