Stephanie Morin of Gorham awarded first-ever CNWS award at Huntington University

HUNTINGTON, IN (06/05/2013)(readMedia)-- Stephanie Morin, a senior history and public relations major, has been named the recipient of the "Best Non-Western Paper" award for 2012-13 from the Center for Non-Western Studies (CNWS) at Huntington University.

A native of Gorham, Maine, Morin investigates the historiography surrounding the partition of India and emergence of modern Pakistan. According to Morin's professor, Dr. Tim Smith, "It is an excellent research paper that attempts to balance a very difficult historiography." The CNWS award committee feels that her paper will serve as a good benchmark for future years.

"I can't express my gratitude and genuine excitement," Morin said about the award. "I look forward to the coming academic year and this opportunity. I loved writing this paper and cannot wait to hear the comments and critique of a specialist."

Morin is referring to the anticipated visit of a scholar, yet to be named, who will engage Morin's thesis and expand upon her findings in a special lecture to be held next spring. In addition to this honor, Morin receives a modest cash prize from the CNWS.

The CNWS was established in 2009 to highlight and support inter-disciplinary research and teaching through a shared interest in non-western politics, culture and society. The center brings together a number of Huntington faculty in the fields of Bible and religion, business, English, history and political science, ministry, TESOL, social work and sociology.
