ANNVILLE, PA (05/02/2013)(readMedia)-- Steven P. O'Day, J.D., a long-time higher-education administrator, has been named to the newly created position of special assistant to the president for innovative programming at Lebanon Valley College. O'Day will assume his new responsibilities on July 1.

"I am very happy that Steve O'Day will join our leadership team at Lebanon Valley College," said Dr. Lewis Evitts Thayne, president of the College. "He will be responsible for innovative, high-priority programs-coordination and expansion of high impact experiences, comprehensive post-graduate preparation, and other similar programs involving faculty and students. Steve and I worked closely together during my seven years at Franklin & Marshall (F&M) so I know he is well suited to this role."

I can't wait to begin working with everyone to build campus partnerships that enhance high impact experience programs such as study abroad, short-term faculty-led student abroad programs, the Arnold Experiential Grant Program, internship programs, community-based learning programs, and summer student-faculty research. In addition, I look forward to promoting opportunities for our students to pursue external scholarship opportunities such as Fulbright Grants, and helping to develop a formal leadership learning program."

O'Day became associate dean for advisement at F&M in 1998, a position he held until 2001. At that time, he was named associate dean for student academic affairs until receiving appointment as senior associate dean of the college in 2007-a position he held throughout the remainder of his tenure at F&M.

In addition to serving on various F&M committees, O'Day was an adjunct professor of business, organizations, and society from 2000-present and as the pre-law/pre-professional advisor from 1998–2012.

O'Day earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Millersville University in 1985. He proceeded to Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, where he was awarded a juris doctor degree in 1988. He pursued private law practice for a decade after graduation, specializing in civil litigation, business, corporate, real estate, domestic, criminal, and estate law.

O'Day made the transition to a career in higher education in 1997 when he assumed the role of head coach of women's soccer at F&M. During the next 10 years, his squads posted 112 wins, the most in program history, while winning the 2002 ECAC Division III Championship.

O'Day resides in Millersville, Pa. He serves on the board of directors of Bright Side Opportunities Center in Lancaster. He and his wife, Cecelia, have a son, Ryan, who is a college student. Cecelia is an English teacher and department coordinator, and head coach of the boys and girls swim team at Penn Manor High School in central Pennsylvania.
