Stewart Bainum Jr. Elected to Bowdoin College Board of Trustees

BRUNSWICK, ME (05/23/2011)(readMedia)-- Stewart Bainum Jr., of Chevy Chase, Md., has been elected to the Bowdoin College Board of Trustees. Bainum was one of seven trustees elected for a term of five years, effective July 1, 2011.

Bainum is chairman of the board of Choice Hotels International, Sunburst Hospitality Corp., and holding company Realty Investment Co., Inc.

Choice Hotels, one of the largest and most successful lodging companies in the world, currently franchises more than 6,000 hotels in the U.S. and more than 35 countries and territories. Its brands include Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, MainStay Suites Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn.

He is a former Maryland State Representative (1979-1983) and State Senator (1983-1987). Bainum, whose son Bradford is a member of the Class of 2014, is a thoroughbred breeder and owner of Din Widdie Farm.

The other newly elected trustees include Gregory B. Bowes '83, Tasha vanderLinde Irving '82, George A. Khaldun '73, Kathleen K. Phillips '99, John K. L. Thorndike '02 and Karen Natalie Walker '84.
