GLOVERSVILLE, NY (04/21/2014)(readMedia)-- Stewart's Shop donation benefits Nathan Littauer Hospital Birthing Center
GLOVERSVILLE - Geoffrey Peck Vice President and Executive Director of the Nathan Littauer Foundation accepts a check from Nabil Issa, Stewart's Manager East Fulton Street Gloversville, while thanking Stewart's Shops for their generous donation of $3,500.
Annually the Nathan Littauer Hospital Foundation benefits from the Stewart's Holiday Match, generated by matching local customer's donations from Thanksgiving until Christmas. This year the Stewart's Holiday Match was used to purchase two Neoblue LED Phototherapy Lights for Littauer's Birthing Center.
"We thank Stewart's Shops for their generous support as we support our newest and smallest patients" said Peck.
The risk of jaundice in a newborn baby increases when the baby is born to a mother with a negative blood type. 24 percent of Littauer mothers' had a negative blood type. Premature births create an added risk for jaundice in newborns.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommended changing current white phototherapy treatment of hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice) to blue, blue/green lights for better efficiency. Littauer has purchased the lights for use at the Birthing Center.
"Because Littauer is continually committed to providing the best care for our littlest patients, we implemented the new, evidence-based standard and turned to Stewart's Shops to help" said Peck. "We thank Stewarts Shops, and its customers for this donation."
