Strohman, Strohman, and Third Stream to Perform at Lebanon Valley College

ANNVILLE, PA (08/22/2012)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College professor of music Tom Strohman, his son Greg, and regionally acclaimed jazz group Third Stream perform in LVC's Lutz Hall of the Blair Music Center Sunday, September 9 at 3 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

The performance will feature varied selections, including works by Serge Rachmaninoff, Herbert Couf, Paul Bonneau, Dizzy Gillespie, Henry Mancini, Gordon Goodwin and Genesis, as well as the premiere performances of "Last Days of Summer" by Tom and "Homage" by Greg.

Tom Strohman, a 1975 LVC graduate, has been a member of Third Stream since 1974 and has taught music at LVC for more than 25 years. As a freelance musician he has performed for entertainers Sonny and Cher, The Four Aces, Della Reese, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Vinton, and Johnny Mathis. Tom has also shared the stage with jazz musicians Bobby Rosengarten, John Blake, John Von Ohlem, and many more. He was inducted into the Central PA Friends of Jazz Hall of Fame in 2009.

Greg Strohman graduated from LVC in 2008. He received his master's degree in trombone performance from Temple University in 2010 and is currently in the third year of his doctoral studies in Trombone Performance at Temple. As a trombonist he has performed with the Dave Stahl Sacred Orchestra, the Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass, Symphony in C, the Wilmington Ballet Orchestra, and the Pottstown Symphony. In 2003 Greg appeared as a pianist on National Public Radio's "From the Top." In 2011 Greg rehearsed the "Verdi Requiem" with Metropolitan Opera singers Jennifer Check, Margaret Lattimore, Garrett Sorenson, and Eric Owens for Temple University Symphony Orchestra's Tenth Annual Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Concert. He has also served as rehearsal accompanist with the Harrisburg Opera.

Third Stream, one of Pennsylvania's finest contemporary bands, has been performing for 38 years and features Jim Easton on guitar, retired LVC adjunct music professor Jim Miller on bass, and John Peifer on drums. The group has released five recordings and has performed in concert with Herbie Hancock, Stanley Turrentine, Livingston Taylor, Jeff Beck, Deodato, Spyro Gyra, Vassar Clements, and Phil Wilson.
