MILWAUKEE, WI (03/20/2013)(readMedia)-- Milwaukee -- For the first time in Northern Athletics Conference history, both men's and women basketball players claimed first team All Northern Athletic Conference first team honors, and received the freshman of the year award.
Women's basketball student-athlete Megan Kroll (Weston Wis./D.C. Everest) and men's basketball player Austin Stueck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee H.S.) and had outstanding seasons in a Raiders uniform to all earn conference accolades.
Kroll, a 5-8 guard played and started in all 20 games played. She was second in the conference in steals and third with a 14.7 points per game average. She also ranks 15th in the conference in rebounding with 6.2 boards per game.
Averaging 38.4 minutes per game, Kroll shot 38.4% (97-278) from the field, 37% 19-51 from beyond the three point arc, and 70.4% (81-115) at the foul line. Kroll added 47 assists, 58 steals, 123 rebounds, to her 2012-2013 year end totals.
MSOE head women's basketball coach Jessica Ott has nothing but praise for Kroll. "Megan is a special player that put up big time numbers as a freshman, she directed our offense and defended extremely well. We trusted her to lead this team as a freshman and she did it like a seasoned veteran. She is a competitor. Megan is deserving of this honor. I am very proud of her."
On the men's court, the 6-4 guard Stueck started in 24 of 26 games played and led all Raiders averaging 12.8 points per game, 13th in the NAC. He had a 44% field goal percentage (125-284), shooting 33.9% ( 39-115) from beyond the three point line. Stueck was 44-58 from the foul line, a 75.9% average for the season. He had 138 rebounds, 51 assists, 39 steals, 20 blocks and finished the season with 333 points in his first year as a Raider.
"Austin led our team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots from a guard position", said men's basketball head coach Brian Miller. "That is very impressive. He has a great passion and love of the game that carries over to his teammates".
Both Stueck and Kroll look to lead the Raiders to successful seasons in 2013-2014 season.
