Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard brings wild variety show to New Albany
LOUISVILLE, KY (06/15/2010)(readMedia)-- Things are about to get weird. No one knew that New Albany, Indiana could be considered a hub for entertainment, art and performance but that's what is about to happen. There's no longer a need to drive into Louisville to visit a comedy club or look for unique entertainment. Steinert's Pub and Grill is the newest host venue for Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard: a traveling variety show hosted by Louisville Wild Child Renaissance Woman Divinity Rose. Starting Thursday June 17, Steinert's will offer the wildest variety show in town featuring comedy, music, carnival performers, artists, local media and more in conjunction with $1 domestic long necks night. Sub Rosa also wants to showcase YOU. A sign up list is put out at 8:30 before the show begins where anyone can sign up to perform throughout the night. The show starts at 9 pm.
This isn't the Courtyard's first journey over the bridge from Louisville. In 2009, they produced a couple of shows outside of Psychomania Haunted House at Green Tree Mall in addition to approximately 100 shows produced in Louisville. Sub Rosa is like an open mic but also has paid featured spots for visual artists, actors, dancers, magicians, comedians, musicians. Sub Rosa showcases anything arts and entertainment related while focusing on creating a community, and there are weekly openings. Interested parties should come to one of the shows to meet the host/ audition or see about booking. Booking is also done through their website at www.louisvillesubrosa.info. Sub Rosa: the Gypsie Courtyard night also serves as an audition night for the venue to book entertainment from on other evenings.
A typical night at Sub Rosa exposes viewers to the amazing talent right in our own backyards, and there is no cover charge. Attendees get a free smorgasboard of comedy, music, poetry and more as they get to peruse paintings, jewelry, sculptures or local films. Sometimes there are even more extreme performances including fire spinning or glass walking. Friendships, relationships, employment and more have been found and forged at the courtyard. You never know what you will see when you walk through the doors, but it will change your life.
Divinity Rose hosts the event with an unmatched energy level that electrifies everyone around her. In addition to producing Sub Rosa, Rose is an alternative pop and performance artist (currently #2 on the Reverb Nation pop charts for Louisville), and a graphic novel author/artist who began her entertainment career with community theater, indie film and stand up comedy. She released her graphic novel in March and sold out of the first run within a month. The storyline crosses her live performance and videos, which she releases at Sub Rosa.
One trip to the Friend of Lou's Blog calling for votes for local services shows the overwhelming support and comments from the Louisville community about the benefits Sub Rosa offers: http://www.friendoflou.com/contests/a-vote-for-lou-is-a-vote-for-lou/
