Suffolk County GOP Nominates Lee Zeldin for First C.D.

It's Official, Endorsed Candidate Earns Unanimous Party Support

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. (05/22/2008)(readMedia)-- At their annual party convention, the Suffolk County GOP officially nominated their candidate for the First Congressional District before an energized crowd at the MacArthur Radisson tonight.

Army Veteran and Shirley resident Lee Zeldin, who has enjoyed wide-ranging support from political leadership, pundits, and community organizations since his candidacy began last October, accepted the nomination to thunderous applause.

"Eastern Long Island and Congress needs stronger leadership today," said Zeldin. "Its time for fresh faces, bold ideas, and an independent, bulldog spirit."

Campaigning since leaving active duty Army last fall, Zeldin's campaign platform has focused on addressing Long Island's severe cost of living challenges, supporting retirees and military veterans, securing our borders and strengthening national security at home and abroad.

Suffolk County Republican Party Chairman Dr. Harry Withers introduced Zeldin to thunderous applause. "Lee Zeldin is the most energetic, charismatic and visionary candidate Suffolk county has had in decades," said Withers. "I'm proud to fully support and stand 100 percent behind Lee Zeldin and his great campaign."

Zeldin's upbeat and energetic acceptance speech focused on a sense of urgency and a time for action.

"I stand here tonight prepared for battle, ready to represent our families, our communities and our troops as we storm Capitol Hill," said Zeldin. "Because our challenges can't afford the luxury of a Summer Vacation; Fellow residents of Suffolk County, let it be known that with my candidacy: Long Island's future begins now."
