Sugar Land Student Selected for Summer Research Project Sponsored by the National Science Foundation
GEORGETOWN, TX (04/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Caroline Weston of Sugar Land has been selected to participate in a prestigious summer research program for undergraduates sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
Weston will spend 10 weeks working with Keith Strevett, a professor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma, examining the shear capacity of pre-stressed concrete I-girders that have been strengthened with carbon fiber-reinforced polymers. These girders are used to support a number of different types of buildings.
Weston is a junior at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and is a participant in the university's dual degree engineering program. After completing that, she hopes to go to graduate school to get a master's degree in civil engineering.
Weston is a graduate of Dulles High School.
