Summer Academic Programs at Berkshire Country Day School
STOCKBRIDGE/LENOX, MA (04/27/2016)(readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School, an independent school for students in preschool through ninth grade, is pleased to announce three summer academic programs that will be taught by BCD faculty on its campus at 155 Interlaken Road in Stockbridge.
From July 5 through July 15, a Creative Writing Workshop for students entering grades 6-8 will be taught by Dr. Jilly Lederman. A variety of writing prompts, techniques, and games is being offered, and students will write poetry, plays, or fiction. At the end of the session, students will present a showcase of their creations.
For students enters grades 6-8, from August 8 through August 12, Madame Grace Barlow will teach a French Immersion class employing the Rassais Method® that uses role play and fast-paced theatrical drilling techniques, coupled with immediate reinforcement. French will be spoken and introductory grammar reviewed. Students will be moving as much as they are speaking. Students taking this class should have completed at least one year of French.
From August 15 through August 19, Dr. Lederman will host a Math Boot Camp for students entering grades 5-7. Essential math concepts will be reviewed through a variety of games, projects, and collaborative learning activities. Students will have the opportunity to improve in their own challenge areas.
Dr. Lederman joined BCD in 2010. She currently teaches history, English, and writing to fifth graders. She has a B.A. in Journalism from Syracuse University, and an M.A. in Slavic Languages and Literatures and a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages from the University of Virginia. She is the recipient of two Grinspoon Awards for teaching excellence and formerly taught at Sinai Academy and was on the faculty at Nazareth College of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology.
Completing her first year of teaching French at BCD, Madame Barlow received her A.B. and M.A. with Cum Laude Honors in French from Bryn Mawr. She has studied at the Institute d'Etudes Françaises d'Avignon and l'Université Paris VIII in France, The Governor's Academy in Byfield, MA, and Pudong Foreign Language School in Shanghai, China.
