Summer Safari Serves Up Enrichment for Youth

PLATTSBURGH, NY (06/30/2009)(readMedia)-- This summer youth in the North Country can learn about science and math, foreign languages, dance, art, gardening, history, yoga and more. And they can act in the musical "Godspell."

These summer enrichment opportunities are all a part of Summer Safari. Designed for youth ages 5 through 18 and hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh College Auxiliary Service, the class offerings run at various times throughout July and early August. Individual courses run from two days to a week in duration and cost from $35 to $300, depending on the offering.

Kate Chilton, conference director for College Auxiliary Services, said that Summer Safari quells the potential boredom of a long summer, stirs up new ideas and lets kids and parents experience the joy of creativity.

"Summer Safari is such a great program because kids get to delve into something of particular interest to them or something that is brand new and exciting," said Chilton. "Classes are small; teachers have a special interest in the subject and in sharing their knowledge with young people. Kids get a terrific sense of accomplishment and well being."

This year's program offerings include the following:

• Scriptwriting and performance.
• Science Camp.
• Math.
• French.
• Geography.
• History.
• Art.
• Horses.
• Girls' Club.
