Summer Sanford Awarded The Minnie L. Anderson Award During Hardin-Simmons University Commencement

ABILENE, TX (05/23/2011)(readMedia)-- Summer Sanford, of Garland, TX, was awarded The Minnie L. Anderson Award during spring commencement ceremonies held this month at Hardin-Simmons University.

The Minnie L. Anderson Award is presented to a senior woman who has spent three or more years in residence at Hardin-Simmons University, and who has excelled in character, personal development, and service to the university. A committee of HSU faculty and staff members nominate and vote on the recipient.

Sanford has achieved a high level of academic success at HSU. She has repeatedly been named to the President's List and is a recipient of the HSU Presidential Scholarship. She has received the Haggerton Endowed Scholarship, the Brunson and Stell Scholarship, the Evans Biology Scholarship, the Campbell Scholarship, and the First Baptist Church of Garland College Ministry Scholarship.

Sanford is a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Service Organization, has served as vice president and then president of the Pre-Health Professions Society. She was a member of the Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics Research Society, a member of the HSU Student Congress, and a member of the University Go Green Committee. She has been an active member of her Church as a childrens Sunday school teacher, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Hendrick Medical Center, and Hendrick Nursing Home.

She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Hardin-Simmons with a major in biology and a minor in biochemistry. She plans to continue her education by pursuing a doctorate in medicine.

Sanford is the daughter of Mr. Raleigh Sanford of Garland.
