Sweet Victory for West Des Moines Cook in State Fair Honey Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/14/2018) (readMedia)-- Kyle Barton of West Des Moines won First Place Overall and a $150 cash award in the Taste of Honey Challenge judged Saturday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Breads, desserts, appetizers and snacks feature honey as the star ingredient was put to the test by judges.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance and best use of honey.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
