DES MOINES, IA (09/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Des Moines University invites our neighbors and community to join our Start Somewhere Walk on Friday, October 7, at noon.
Starting at the Academic Center, 3440 Grand Avenue, the one-mile route will head west on Grand Avenue to 42nd Street and return to campus. DMU faculty, staff and students will join thousands of Iowans in a simultaneous walk to kick off the Healthiest State Initiative, a plan to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation in five years.
More than 400 Start Somewhere Walks have already been scheduled across the state. Organizers of the walk have announced a goal of breaking a world record by having 250,000 Iowans participating.
Des Moines University is proud of our commitment to lifelong wellness and is pleased to participate in this effort. Feel free to join DMU anywhere along the route as we take this step to becoming the healthiest state in the nation.
