Tal Covington Receives Final Convocation Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/27/2011)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 21, Hampden-Sydney College senior Richard Talley Covington received the David C. Wilson Memorial Greek Award and the Lelia B. Thompson Eta Sigma Phi Prize in Latin, both presented by Dr. James A. Arieti, Thompson Professor of Classics. Honoring a former dean of the College, the Wilson Greek award recognizes excellence in studies of Greek. The Thompson Latin Prize recognizes the student with outstanding accomplishments in the study of classical languages. Eta Sigma Phi is the national classics honor society.

A Patrick Henry Scholar, Tal is a member of the honorary societies Phi Beta Kappa (academics), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), and Eta Sigma Phi (classics). He is President of the Classics Club and is a member of the Senior Campaign Leadership Committee. Tal is on the varsity tennis team and has been named to All-Conference, 2nd Team Doubles (3 years), 2nd Team Singles, 1st Team Singles and was awarded the John Jack Miller Scholar Athlete Award for Tennis (2 years). A Greek and Latin major, Tal graduated from Flint Hill School and is the son of Mrs. Laurie T. Covington & the late Richard B. Covington of Gainesville.
