POTSDAM, N.Y. (02/26/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Alexander Taylor (Port Ewen, N.Y./Kingston) and Richie Zimmerman (Victor, N.Y./Victor) have been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference swimming teams for the 2012-13 season. Taylor repeats as a first team selection, while Zimmerman was named to the conferences' second team.
Taylor, a senior, successfully defended his 100 and 200 breaststroke conference titles at the SUNYAC Championships in Buffalo last week. On Friday, he broke his own Potsdam record with a time of 0:57.61 in the 100 breaststroke final. On Saturday, he set the SUNYAC record in the 200 breaststroke. After breaking his own school record in the preliminary heat, he took a second off in the final for a 2:05.48 finish to set the conference mark. Taylor also set the Bears record in the 200 individual medley on Thursday, breaking his own mark with a 1:56 time.
Zimmerman took five seconds off Taylor's school mark in the 400 individual medley in the preliminary heat before knocking off another two in the final for a Potsdam record of 4:10.11. The junior also joined Taylor on two-school record setting relay teams. The Bears 400 medley relay set a school mark with a 3:30.68 finish on Thursday. The duo then helped Potsdam's 400 freestyle relay team to a new school mark of 3:10.98 on Friday. Zimmerman was a SUNYAC finalist in the 200 and 400 individual medley events and the 200 breaststroke.
During the SUNYAC Championships' three days, the Bears won two individual conference titles, set 14 school records and one conference mark. Potsdam's men finished fifth out of nine teams at the championships.
