Terrance Green helps bring home band trophy to Lock Haven University

LOCK HAVEN, PA (05/09/2011)(readMedia)-- On April 2 the Eta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, located at Lock Haven University, won the A. Frank Martin Top Chapter Award at the 2011 Northeast District Convention hosted by James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Terrance Green was initiated into Kappa Kappa Psi in Spring 2007. The Glenside, Pa. resident performs on percussion instruments.

The A. Frank Martin Top Chapter Award is the highest award given to a chapter in the Northeast District of Kappa Kappa Psi. The district spans from Maine to Virginia, encompassing forty one active chapters and one colony.

The award is given to the chapter that demonstrates excellence in all aspects. The field of service is especially crucial in consideration for this award, as Kappa Kappa Psi is a fraternity dedicated to service to bands. Christina Mulford, senior and chapter Corresponding/Alumni Secretary stated, "This is the best way to end five years of college, marching band, and Kappa Kappa Psi. I am so incredibly proud of this chapter and it makes me ecstatic to call myself a Brother at Lock Haven University."

Eta Alpha chapter president Raymond Siedlecki stated, "It is truly an hour to be chosen to receive this award. It shows, in earnest, that hard work can really pay off." LHU's Eta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi last won the award in 1991-1992 academic year.

Kappa Kappa Psi is a National Honorary Fraternity for college band members, and brothers must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75. Director of bands at Lock Haven University and Eta Alpha chapter sponsor, Prof. Jack R. Schmidt stated, "It is tantamount to earning a degree - more powerful in significance than just acknowledgement to hard work - a monumental reward because of a team effort."

Other chapters that were nominated for the award for the 2010-2011 academic year were Omicron, at West Virginia University; Epsilon Nu, at the University of Massachusetts; Zeta Psi, at Virginia State University; Eta Beta, at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and Kappa Psi, at Virginia Commonwealth University.
