ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (08/11/2011)(readMedia)-- Lincoln natives Jennifer Cognard-Black, associate professor of English at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and Andrew Cognard-Black, adjunct professor of sociology and liberal arts associate, have been named Fulbright Scholars and awarded grants to teach in Slovenia in the spring of 2012. Jennifer Cognard-Black anticipates teaching courses in American literature and women's studies, while Andrew Cognard-Black has applied to teach sociology courses about gender and work.

The Fulbright Program is run by the U.S. Department of State and has been providing scholars, teachers, and students with opportunities to further cultural exchange through education since 1946. Approximately 1,200 U.S. scholars are chosen for Fulbright awards each year.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
