BROCKPORT, NY (12/17/2008)(readMedia)-- Robert C. Schneider, EdD, associate professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sport at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, has published his second book, Ethics of Sport and Athletics: Theory Issues, and Practice, commonly referred to as Ethics of Sport and Athletics. The book is due to be released early next year by publisher Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins.

Schneider has taught undergraduate sport management and coaching courses as well as graduate athletic administration courses in the Department of Physical Education and Sport at The College at Brockport for 12 years. Schneider also published the textbook Basketball for all Levels (American Press), as well as 43 peer-reviewed scholarly articles, and has taken part in 61 scholarly presentations at local, state, national, and international conferences. His most recent presentation, The Virtuous Sport Manage, takes place in November at the Forensic Sciences and Sport Conference in Ankara, Turkey.

Ethics of Sport and Athletics was a product of nearly four years of research and writing that included several rounds of critical academic reviews by 14 professors in the United States and abroad. The book contains three chapters related to ethical theory, which include moral decision-making models and moral reasoning grounded in the works of the classical philosophers. Issues of emphasis include race, gender, violence, hazing, competition, drugs in sport, interscholastic and intercollegiate sport, as well as sport managers. The book includes 56 pictures and educational cartoons.

Schneider states, "One of my primary goals in writing Ethics of Sport and Athletics was to include moral theory in a way that could be applied to contemporary problems often faced by sport managers, players, fans, etc. in the real world of sport."

Schneider's first book, Basketball for all Levels, a research-oriented textbook, was written through experience gained from 10 years of coaching intercollegiate basketball. The use of narrative descriptions and "still shot" photographs help detail a range of basketball skills that can be mastered by amateur and elite players alike.
