NEW ROCHELLE, NY (12/01/2011)(readMedia)--  The College of New Rochelle's Alyssa Pechin from Yonkers, NY, a freshman guard on the Blue Angels Basketball Team, was named Player of the Week by the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) on November 28, 2011. Pechin had a career game against John Jay on November 21, scoring 22 points. The Blue Angels went down to defeat 70-52, but Pechin made 6-for-14 baskets from the floor and coupled that with six steals, four assists, and four rebounds to fill up the stat line.

Pechin, who attended Our Lady of Victory Academy in Dobbs Ferry, is a star player for the Blue Angels. Coach Susan Kern says Pechin has no fear on the court. "Alyssa is not afraid to take a charge when a player twice her size comes at her. Her ball control allows her to weave through most players, and she has the ability to get to the basket and score or dish it off to a teammate. She's constantly hustling, chasing down loose balls, getting her hands in the passing lane. And she is also an offensive threat. Alyssa, I know, will continue to lead this team throughout the season."

On Wednesday night, playing at home against Bard College, Alyssa again led all scorers with 23 points, including going 7 for 7 from the free throw line as the Blue Angels won 53 to 42. This win improves CNR record to 3-3 on the year.

The College of New Rochelle team is back in action on Saturday, December 3, as they participate in the Betty Shabazz Tournament against Medger Evers. The game is at 6:00 pm at Medger Evers.
