NEW ROCHELLE, NY (03/09/2012)(readMedia)-- The College of New Rochelle has announced that the Castle Gallery has been awarded the 2012 Community Arts Award from ArtsWestchester. The award recognizes individuals and organizations whose vision, commitment, and leadership enrich Westchester, its communities, and its citizens.

The Castle Gallery won the award for having "demonstrated extraordinary vision and leadership in using the arts to enhance community life, increasing access to cultural experiences, and by enriching the county's cultural heritage."

"I am thrilled that the Castle Gallery has received this prestigious award from ArtsWestchester. Our success over the years comes from our dedicated Board of Directors, the support we have within the College, and the collaborations we've been fortunate enough to have with other Westchester organizations. This award is an honor we share with everyone we've ever had the pleasure to work with," said Katrina Rhein, Director of the Castle Gallery.

ArtsWestchester will present the Arts Award at its Annual Arts Award Luncheon on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains.

Established in 1980, the Castle Gallery is open to the public and serves school groups and art lovers, offering a range of workshops, lectures, film screenings, demonstrations, and family activities free of charge. The Gallery also offers free tours that are tailored to the physical/psychological needs of each group, ensuring that all have access to the exhibits we display.

During the past few years, the Castle Gallery has done programs in collaborations with ArtsWestchester, Clay Art Center, Jack and Jill Organization of Westchester, the Westchester Children's Museum and the New Rochelle Council on the Arts. The Castle Gallery has also worked with organizations beyond greater New Rochelle including Lincoln Center Institute, R&F Encaustics/Handmade Paint and Pop-Up Adventure Play.

The Castle Gallery opened in Leland Castle on the Main Campus of The College of New Rochelle in 1980. For 32 years, it has been a significant educational and cultural resource for both the CNR Community and the community at large, presenting a wide range of original exhibitions.
